In the last week of our project Hailee and I had a few bumps in the road, at one point we were sitting on the sidewalk, alone, outside Mt. Vernon High School with over a thousand cans of food. However, we had several local business donate gift cards, the community responded well to our event, and the schools donated a plethora of items. The Hancock County Food Pantry received over 2,000 cans of food from the event. I learned how to adjust to various situations, I learned how to communicate with significant individuals, I learned how to organize groups of volunteers, and I learned to accept defeat and continue on. This project helped me grow not only as a student, but as an effective and beneficial citizen.
